Falling in love with one important person

Love yourself moreI read two blogs this past week about love. Both had to do with loving yourself first and foremost so you can then fully give love to others.

This rang especially true for me this past week as I continued to put myself out into the dating world in search of romantic love, and as I coached others struggling to find their own sense of self-love. (Something I, too, struggled with for many, many years.)

I wanted to share a couple of quotes/excerpts from the blogs that got me thinking about how important self-love is to full realizing all other types of love. And how I am experiencing this now in my own life. If I could remember the blog sites I would link them here. Instead, I will share what stood out for me…

  • “Don’t believe the saying, ‘You complete me.’ The bottom line is, no other person can complete us…but we CAN complete ourselves. Look no further than yourself. We just need to believe it.”
  • “Fall in love with yourself. Go to the mirror, introduce yourself and say, ‘I love you!'”

To both these quotes, I say a resounding YES!

Start with loving yourself unconditionally – including, and especially, your imperfections – and I promise you amazing things will happen. You will start to exude happiness and joy. You will shine from the inside out. And you will begin to attract the right kind of love. Or, at least be presented with opportunities. Your love relationships with others will be deeper and richer because you love yourself and know what you want/deserve. And ultimately you will have more love to give.

I didn’t realize it until now, but I believe in my heart that to be truly open to romantic love with another person, you must first truly love yourself. It is then and only then that you can attract the other kinds of love you so richly deserve.

That said, it doesn’t mean there won’t be heartache or disappoint along the way. I didn’t say it was easy! And, I can’t comment on that one today as I am living through a mini-version. But I wouldn’t trade it for the world because it means I am in my equation, I am open to love, and I am on my way. There is no greater joy!

So for all of you who struggle to love number one – yourself – I encourage you to keep walking the path of self care, authenticity and self-affirmation and you WILL get there. And when you do, sparks will fly – in a good way! 😉

That, to me is the law of attraction – love yourself first and you will attract all kinds of deep meaningful love in your life.

I read this and think of the “Barney” song! I love you….you love me…we’re a happy family….
I think one of the most important things I have done is to love my kids and teach them it’s ok to love themselves. Do they ever falter? Are they always on? No, but they love themselves far more than they don’t, and they also have a great amout of love to share with their friends. This is the legacy I will leave behind. Thanks Lori for writing, and reaffirming, self-love is the greatest gift.
