In the spirit of being brave, authentic…

…and living from the center of your equation

bluehillbestHi Peeps! I’m not quite back in the saddle of resuming the blog, but this morning I read something on Simple Reminders.com that I wanted to share.

In the spirit of being brave, daring greatly, and being true to your authentic self, this is a good one. And it rings so true in my life. In fact, it is serendipitous in its timeliness.

This is a simple reminder of why we aim to live honorably and be kind in all situations, even the hardest ones. It’s a reminder of why I live and love with my whole heart, even when I get smooshed. Or, as author Brene Brown says, in Daring Greatly, when we come out of the arena marred by dust and sweat and blood because we strived valiantly.

loriandbud-bluehillmountainI aim to be the kind of person that dares greatly and does hard things vs. running away or avoiding hard things and living a “half life.” I used to do that and it kept my life small.

Now, I want to be the person that takes the high road, even and especially when it may not be easy or may really hurt.  I now “do” hard things. And I strive always to be kind to others, leaving a mark on their hearts and mine. To me, this is living WHOLE. Now that I am in the center of the equation of my own life, there is no other way for me. And it is not easy.

I hope you enjoy this simple reminder as much as I did today. Here ya go.

When you are generous, sometimes people will take advantage. You may be respectful and yet some people will still be unkind. You may be a good person, and some people will nonetheless still treat you terribly. We don’t always get what we give, but that’s fine, because you aren’t giving it for them anyway, at least not exclusively. It’s really all a statement by, about and for you. How you treat others is really about who you choose to be in this life. The repayment for your good acts are the good acts themselves. When you act honorably, even if others don’t, your honorable actions are your irretractable reward to yourself. Who you chose to be — decision by decision and act by act — is the great reward you receive by doing good. What is well done is well received. The mark you leave in another’s heart is always left in yours; for better or worse. Just because people are not nice to you doesn’t mean you have to be unkind back. That’s how the world changes — one brave person like you being kind. Bryant McGill

  1. I love this quote and reminder, Lori. And it is,and has always been, the way I choose to live my life. And yes, sometimes people aren’t nice. But we still come out on top. Hang in there, my friend.
