Resilience. I love this word!

How resilient are you?

resilienceIt’s not often that I post an article in its entirety without adding my own spin. But this morning, I am inspired to do so.

The famous Jack Canfield, Chicken Soup for the Soul® series, articulates quite eloquently how to build resilience and start living your dreams in this Positively Positive blog titled Building Resilience to Thrive and Succeed.

This is a powerful yet simple piece. And I totally agree about the three principles he cites for success. 1) Becoming more self-aware; 2) Developing self confidence (this can be learned); and 3) Changing your outlook. Read more

Glass half empty or half full?

Learning to self correct

409px-Glass-of-waterI’m not sure who coined the phrase “glass half full” or “glass half empty,” but I love it and use it a lot. It’s a fantastic rhetorical description of how one sees the world — through optimistic eyes or through a more pessimistic lens. And, as I’ve experienced first hand, this worldview permeates everything and affects the outcomes we see in our lives.

This was not always evident to me. In fact, prior to my transformation, I may have argued against it. I spent most of my adult life overweight, unhappy, busy doing everything for everyone else, and looking at the glass half empty (or vacillating wildly between half full and half empty).

Yes, I am a happy and enthusiastic camper today. I got outside for early morning cardio around the lake, to the gym for much needed strength training and cardio, and in fact I had to drag myself inside to get ready for work. Add in some conversation with a couple of great guys and, well, for me, that’s a formula for a happy day! But that’s just me. 🙂

Getting in touch with want vs. need

Putting yourself in the equation, level 2!

want-vs-needI’ve been thinking a lot lately about what I want vs. what I really need in a certain life situation. It has been eye opening to truly dig deep and get in touch with the differences between the two – want vs. need. And, it has allowed me to adjust my thinking in a positive way and relax a little, changing what I put out into the world. It’s pretty cool!

This makes me more open, flexible and even more patient. Certainly, it makes me more in touch with what is really important to me and why. And how I get my overall needs met. Read more
