What’s your favorite “perfect” food?

Have you ever played the board game Personal Preference? It was popular in the early 1990’s. In the game, each player ranks four items (words on cards from four stacks–food, famous people, etc) according to his/her personal preference. After secretly ranking the items,ย  everyone else bets on where the items will fall within the ranking for that individual. My family used to play this game and my favorite category to both rank for myself and guess for other people was food. No surprise, right?!

egg dish - healthy eatingThis morning as I made my eggs/egg beaters, I realized that I have had eggs for breakfast everyย morning for the past two years! It made me wonder if indeed eggs would make my list of top ranked foods. And, it got me inspired to write this blog asking others to share their one favorite perfect food. Fun….right?!

Why eggs?

For me, eggs, egg beaters and/or egg whites provide a perfect source of protein – and in the case of eggs – healthy fat – to start my day. I combine my eggs/egg beaters with any combination of healthy veggies to make omelets and I vary the combinations depending on my macro-nutrient numbers that day/week. I love eggs over easy, scrambled, or just about any old way. I even love salsa on my eggs for a little Tex Mex flavor. And most recently, I have learned to make eggs/egg beaters wherever I go. When I travel, I sometimes end up making them in the microwave – easy but not quite as delicious as on the stove.

Can you see me now doing the commercial for the incredible, edible egg?!

So while eggs might not make the top of my all-time favorite food list. They do make the top of my list of favorite “perfect” healthy foods. Of course, my favorite is when I can combine them with turkey sausage or even bacon, but we won’t go there. ๐Ÿ™‚

My friend Dean has been obsessed (in a good way) with his new Nutribullet, making concoctions with kale and various fruits to hit his numbers. He even has his kids wanting kale! Kendra, who I can tell has a creative flair in the kitchen that is not in my DNA, has been experimenting with smoothies to hit her macro-nutrient numbers, including a Lemon Cooler Smoothie that I can’t wait to try . And Stephanie posted that she is in love with a chocolate protein, peanut butter, and strawberries combo. Yum! I am with ya Steph.

So, in the spirit of fun and living a healthy lifestyle, I ask, what is your favorite “perfect” (implied healthy) food? What are you nuts about and why? Please share here.

P.S. For my fellow egg lovers, fun recipes always welcome!

Great blog post Lori! While I too have done eggs for the past 2 years, I’m not feeling the same connection (maybe because I never took the time to cook them right or get the veggie mix just right). For the next two weeks I’m back eating a restricted Paleolithic diet I received from my ENT Dr. where eggs need to be omitted (you probably heard the cheers up on the north shore!). So with eggs, oatmeal and cereal off the normal breakfast food list, what does one have? Yep, I’m going there: Fat-free refried beans with cilantro and lime juice! YUM — they were delish and I realized how much I missed having them for breakfast! (This is what I ate for breakfast daily for almost a year prior to 2 years of eggs.) Have I enticed you to try ’em for breakfast one day in place of eggs???

    • Linda, I LOVE re-fried beans! Haven’t had them in a long, long time. While I never thought of them for breakfast, yes, you have enticed me to try them for breakfast when I can include them and hit my numbers. Thanks for your post, hon. Hope you are doing well. Miss you.

WEll Lori why I like “eggs” I am afraid I don’t share your enthusiasm. I guess I’d have to say my Favorite “Perfect” Food would be clucky! There are so many ways to prepare, and I can always mix with salad fixings, or vegies, or add to my eggs, or topped with penaut butter when in a pinch for time. I can eat it hot or cold, and if I cook up a big pan of it, I’ve got food for a week ๐Ÿ™‚ So there you have it…Chicken for me. BUT if anyone notices I’m starting to sprout feathers, please let me know.

    • I hear ya, Clucky! Somehow I knew you would say Chicken. And you prepare it so much more creatively than I do – I suspect that helps. I will be sure to let you know if I see you sprout feathers, lol. Thanks for playing my game. Hope you are having an awesome week.

Too hard to say ONE food, but here’s a list:
    Avocado – so delicious
Nuts – my current faves are cashews and pistachios but I love almost any nut
Beans – all kinds, current faves are garbanzos and I love roasted soy nuts and edamame (both really soy beans)
Lentils – highest in fiber and so easy to make – best in my dad’s recipe for Dal Curry – YUM!
Pretty much any vegetable, I can’t think of one I don’t like.
Pretty much any fruit. The earth’s candy.
No eggs or chicken for this girl. A good tofu scramble is my version of your egg scramble.

Good thing I just ate my bowl of celery, broccoli, and lentil soup or this post would make me TOOOOO hungry!

    • Hi there. I hear ya laundry list of favorite healthy foods. I haven’t tried lentils but might have to go. And I am with you now on veggies and fruit. I can’t think of one I don’t like now but I also don’t remember feeling that way before getting healthy. Thanks for playing along. Can’t wait to get home and get back in the studio with you. ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. My opinion is protein, healthy fats – chicken, fish, lean steak, seafood, turkey, just about any veggie, fruit in moderation, avocados, nuts, and even strachy carbs like oatmeal, whole wheat bread and pasta… I have found it is the high fatty foods and for me refined sugar that are killers.
