Faith, courage & love

Requirements for braving the wilderness & living healthy, happy & whole

There is no other blog I could write today. I had the privilege of being in the audience last night at United Methodist Church in Minneapolis, MN, as the amazing Brene Brown kicked off her book tour for Braving the Wilderness, The Quest for True Belonging and the Courage to Stand Alone.

Those of you who frequent this blog, know that I’ve not only been inspired by Brene Brown’s work around courage, vulnerability, love, belonging, shame and empathy, but her best-selling books have mirrored my growth AND my personal understanding about my transformation journey. In her message, I am blessed to learn, grow and evolve as a wholehearted human being, and now to share that experience and perhaps help others in doing so.

The values that Brene Brown speaks about — faith and courage — I share. I try to live daily by the core values of faith, courage and love — and it has perhaps never been more challenging than right now.

Braving the Wilderness and Brene’s message of courage comes just as I’m struggling to find my way through a cycle of adversity and pain in my own life, while remaining in-my- equation, resilient and strong. Once again, she challenges me/us to a new level of humanness. We are called to be braver than ever before. And to do so at a time and in a world that has become increasingly polarized and where “dehumanizing” our fellow man/woman-kind is the norm.

Inside the book we received last night (hot off the presses) was this post card with the following inscription. This, for me, encapsulates the message and calls us to action, personal action. I wanted to share it here with you this morning. It’s #movitvationmonday at its very best!

“Stop walking though the world looking for confirmation that you don’t belong.
You will always find it because you’ve made that your mission.
Stop scouring people’s faces for evidence that you’re not enough.
You will always find it because you’ve made that your goal. ”
True belonging and self worth are not goods; we don’t negotiate their value with the world.
The TRUTH about who we are lives in our hearts.
Our call to COURAGE is to protect our wild heart against constant evaluation, especially our own.
No one belongs here more than YOU.”
— Brene Brown, Braving the Wilderness

If this resonates with you, I encourage you to read the book (I’m already on chapter 3!). I know that as I embark on this new level of healthy, happy and whole, and I am guided by my core values of faith, courage and love, I will have much more to say. But for now, I leave you with this.

YOU BELONG. YOU BELONG HERE. AND YOU ARE ENOUGH! Oh, and there is both wisdom and a responsibility in knowing that and living it.

Thank you @brenebrown for your gifts of imperfection, for daring greatly, rising strong and now braving the wilderness. I’m in!

    • Hi Kevin, I don’t actually know if it comes with the book or not. I received it in the book when I pre-ordered and attended a live event. You might ask at brenebrown.com. It’s pretty cool. – Lori
