From lost hope to #beyondgrateful

Filled with gratitude for the ability to go from small life to WHOLE life!

LoriandBud-smallI woke up Saturday morning, after a week and half of struggle to get back into my MN routine, beyond grateful.

As I entered my day, I was overwhelmed with thoughts about where I am today compared to where I was just four or five years ago. This contrast was just what I needed. The ability to see the big picture from 35,000 feet of all I’ve accomplished and to feel my wildest dreams now coming true.

For those of you that don’t know my story, this November will mark the four-year anniversary of the major turning point in my life. My decision to put myself in the equation of my own life, get healthy and follow my dreams. This is when my transformation journey began. Read more

Twinklle lights and more

Twinkle lights in Rice Park

Hello peeps. Best wishes for a Happy and Healthy New Year! As you can see by the drought in communication, I took a holiday hiatus to enjoy the twinkle lights and so much more.

I LOVE white twinkle lights! And this past holiday offered lots of opportunity to appreciate them. To me, twinkle lights represent hope, love, joy, and all things sparkly, beautiful and good. This holiday my life was filled with white twinkle lights — both in reality and metaphorically.

From Thanksgiving to this day, I have been immersed in twinkle lights. From a special someone filling his house with them, to decorating my house with lights in every room for Christmas, to Christmas light viewing tours in the neighborhood, to  standing in middle of Rice Park in downtown Saint Paul showered in lights. I have found light in friendship, time with family, and in expressing love to all those who mean so much. Read more

My foundation of happiness

Lori-HappyFallLast week, I was driving alone in my car (tunes cranked) on my way to a client meeting when I randomly burst into a big smile. I couldn’t ditch the smile for several minutes. The song on the radio made me think about someone special and I was grinning from ear to ear — “perma grin.” I love these spontaneous outbursts of happiness in the middle of a stressful work day!

I know what you’re thinking. Yes, it was a “guy!” But that’s not the point. We dated and he  is no longer in the picture. Nope, the girl didn’t get the boy. But instead of feeling bummed (already felt that emotion), I am truly grateful and happy that our paths crossed. We had fun. He is a great person and treated me well. While he was only in my life for a season — it was a good one and I feel blessed.

I’m recognizing small moments of happiness and gratitude, like this one, a lot lately.

Today happiness equals…

This past week, I’ve been focused on living in the moment…being fully present in all things. That means going all in, experiencing every moment to the fullest, taking it all in. The good. The challenging. The hidden lessons. The opportunities. All of it.

It’s been great. Eye opening. Fun. Challenging. Read more

The daily practice of gratitude

Grateful for courage, compassion, connection; health and happiness
“God gave you a gift of 86,400 seconds today. Have you used one to say “thank you?” — William A. Ward

I’ve started this gratitude blog at least three times this past week/weekend and have suffered a serious case of  writer’s block each time. Today, it gets published no matter how eloquent. The truth is, I get emotional when I think about the magnitude of all that I am grateful for these days.

The season of gratitude is upon us and I have always believed it is important to step back, take stock, and express my gratitude for the gifts and the people in my life. This year, however, one of the greatest gifts is the daily practice of expressing gratitude.

The gift of sharing my story

Today my heart is full and my spirit soaring. This past weekend, I had the privilege of sharing my transformation story in my first-ever keynote speech. I spoke to a group of about 90 women at Girls Gone North Weekend at the Bluefin Bay Family of Resorts — in the very same room where my transformation journey began two years ago at a live-in weight loss boot camp. My unsung heroes

This past week, I spent time talking with people who look to me for hope and inspiration on their transformation journeys. I have been called a “hero” by some, and find myself  uncomfortable with that label. But, the truth is, if I can be a hope giver, an inspiration, and even a hero to others trying to put themselves in the equation and change their lives, I’m in. Let’s go!
