An honor from Women’s Running Magazine
Wow, What a way to end 2012. This morning I learned that Women’s Running Magazine chose me and this blog as one of their favorite Bloggers On The Run for 2012! That’s so cool!
The Blogger on the Run series features an inspiring blogger each week – so 52 in total. To be named in the Top 12 Most Inspiring, well, that is an honor I am delighted to earn. But more importantly, I am still in awe that I am named “a runner” at all.
If you had told me two years ago when I weighed in at 381 pounds that I would be competing in any version of competitive, athletic races – let alone a half-marathon – I would have asked what you had been drinking…or smoking! I simply could not have fathomed it.
To those of you reading this, I hope my story sends one message: YES, YOU CAN! You can do it. You can do anything you set your mind to. Even the most unlikely, seemingly impossible things.
Today, I am a fit, active and healthy girl developing a love for those very competitive races and for doing all of the things I didn’t do before – active and otherwise. I once let my “head” game and those internal voices of doubt win. I was stopped both by my physical weight and the shame I carried around with it. Today, I am stopped by nothing!
Read this article at Women’s Running Magazine and you too will be inspired by these amazing women runners and bloggers. I know I am, and I am honored to be in their presence.
I can’t wait to get out there and kick some booty in 2013! What are your fitness goals in the New Year?
Lori
P.S. You can read my original Blogger on the Run feature here. Let me and other readers of Women’s Running know what you think.
Here is my blog about the feature.
The life you are creating is inspiring! I am in awe of what you are creating! Congrats Lori!
Thank you Marcia. Happy New Year to you and Tom. Thanks for all of your love, encouragement and support. Can’t wait to see what 2013 brings for both of us.
CONGRATULATIONS. WOW….that is just wonderful! Way to go Lori and this is a great honor. Great way to start the new year and end the old one!
Thank you hon. And thanks for all you have done these past two years to cheer and support me in friendship and sisterhood. YOU are the best. Happy, Happy New Year.
Congrats !!! You are so motivating to me !!!
Thank you darlin. Appreciate all of your enthusiasm and support. Happy New Year. Let’s rock 2013!
wow, you continue to inspire and kick some ass girl! This is so awesome! We should talk about running–it’s something I really really want to do, and trust me, I’ve tried…..my biggest problem are “my girls”…I can wear a normal bra and 2 sports bras and Laverne and Shirley still want to punch me in the face. It’s dangerous! I’m considering duct tape. I cheer on my friends and family in the chicago marathon every year, some day I’d love to be running with them.
you’re amazing Lori!
Ha, Chelsea, your comment makes me smile. Yes, PM me on Facebook and let’s chat. For sure. I power walk and run trails. I have not opened up the running on pavement due to genetic knee problems that run in my family and I have been advised not. Trail running is much more fun to me and easier on the knees. But I am getting a doctor’s opinion this next year to see if I can’t open it up! I am looking at two half-marathons this next year and will likely do a combo of power walking and some short distance running. Let’s chat. You can do this! Happy New Year.
Congratulations Lori 🙂 Your inspiring story is spreading and reaching so many people. I’m exciting to see what opportunities and impact this will bring in 2013 🙂
Thanks Julie for your ongoing encouragement and support. So happy to be getting to know you and walking this journey with you. You, too, totally inspire. For both of us, 2013 will be an awesome year. Yay! Happy New Year.
