Self-Care Sunday. It works!

self-care-sunday-walkI don’t know who comes up with #hashtags for every day of the week (#motivationmonday, #tbt…) but a few weeks ago I discovered the idea of #selfcaresunday.

Though practicing self-care is a fundamental principle for my life now that I live each day with Lori-in-the-equation, I love the idea of a day devoted to rest and downtime. An opportunity to get focused and consciously in touch with what our mind, body and spirit need. It’s an awesome “time out”, if you will.

I’ve pretty much adopted the #selfcaresunday approach (unknowingly) since I began my transformation journey in Nov. 2010 and went from working 12-18 hours per day, 7 days a week, to a non-negotiable of taking at least ONE day for myself — usually Sunday.

Sunday’s have become the day to relax and recharge, to set myself up for success for the week, to enjoy fun time with family and friends, and to get grounded in what comes next. If I do need to work on those days, and often I do, I switch it up and practice #selfcaresaturday! Ha. Take that #hashtaggers. Read more

A funny for this Friday

losingweight-funnyHappy Friday peeps!

Here’s a fun one to brighten your day and let you know I’m thinking about you. If you are reading this, I hope you get a chuckle and have a great day.

Forgive the tardiness of this week’s blog. I’ve been on the road in Downeast Maine on an “In the Equation” tour. I had a great time at some of Maine’s most exciting and innovative companies exploring employee wellness efforts and speaking at the Bangor YMCA to a group of peeps just starting a Biggest Mover Challenge. (A BIG shout out to each and every one of you. You’ve got this! And, I welcome you to our In the Equation community.)

My recent trip has inspired blogs about the very topic of this funny — how to keep your weight off and stay healthy for life, fall hiking, and more.

Yep, I’m back in the saddle so stay tuned in the coming weeks and if you’ve got a topic to suggest, let me know. For now, be well and be in your equation.

XXOOOOO

In the Equation MN Meet Ups

Join us in St. Paul at Como Lake Thursday’s in August!

ComoLake-2015I’m excited to announce FREE weekly meet-up sessions for anyone in the In the Equation community who wants to meet, walk, talk and support each other in reaching their goals.

These MN Meet-ups are for those who need a little extra push to get started, for anyone in search of some walking pals and/or accountability for reaching your  goals. Or, for those wanting to just learn more about me and In the Equation.com.

It does NOT have to be about weight loss or diet and exercise. For many, “putting yourself in the equation” means making time for you and making your needs, your goals, your dreams a priority — whatever they are! Read more

Lovin’ the color vibe & cardio

886043_587350141404843_8198818874545844693_oColor runs are fun! I’m a big fan of the crazy concept. I’ve done two 5K’s now and am in search of the next.

For beginners or people who don’t think they’d like the competitive race environment, they’re perfect. Color runs are a low stress, non-intimidating and totally rad 5K race environment — sans competitiveness, race timing, and any stress. Quite simply, they’re about happy, fun and color! Read more

Friendship, frittata and fun

And a recipe for a healthy Chicken Broccoli Frittata. Yum!

10_13_11 Sisters Journey, Maine 113I’m a lucky girl to have such amazing friends in my life! Topping the list, is my group of eight college friends/sorority sisters — we’ve been friends since the 80’s and have seen each other through triumph and heartache, loss of every kind, joy of just about every kind, and lots of celebration.

This was the group of women that traveled from Minnesota to Maine with me almost three years ago to climb a mountain in Acadia National Park and toast my -150 pound weight loss milestone.

We’re all now entering (what I guess you call) middle age, and we all live in Minnesota so we’re able to see each other often. Lately, we’ve embarked on an attempt to get together weekly at my friend Kathy’s house. She hosts weekly “supper club” and whomever can come, comes. One of us makes dinner, and the nights are always filled with deep-in-your-belly, full-on laughter. The kind that makes your cheeks hurt and spirit soar. Read more

A whole life…the best life

“Did you ever in your whole life, think you would have a whole life?”

Lori-ReadytohitroadI was talking with someone close to me yesterday about my recent vacation. As she listened to me reflect on the experience, she said she was reminded of a saying that was displayed on a banner at an Alcoholics Anonymous event. It read: “Did you ever in your whole life, think you would have a whole life?”

I was struck by this observation. Ironically, for the first time in my whole life, I am indeed living a whole life. A whole life vs. a full life. My best life. And for that I am incredibly grateful.

There is a part of me that says, “Wow, this is so cool. I am so lucky. And happy!” And, there’s another part that says, “Holy shit this is a lot of work.” Read more

My first Color Me Rad 5K!

Lori-Christine-official-ColormeRad.jpgI just completed my first ever Color me Rad 5k in Madison, WI, over Labor Day Weekend with my college girlfriend, Christine. It was a blast!

In a spontaneous and last minute decision, I decided to head to Madison to raise a little hell with my awesome college friend, Christine. It was a weekend of firsts — my first ever Color Me Rad, actually my first 5K; my first BadgerFest (FUN!); and my first visit to Taste of Madison. It was an absolutely fun-filled girls weekend. And, no, not all the activities will make the blog! Some of what happened in Madison, stays in Madison! 😉 Read more

No longer looking for joy. Too busy having fun!

Funny thing about joyI came across this quote and had to post it. I love Leigh Stanley of Curly Girl Designs and find her quotes the best ones to live by. This one struck my fancy as I am crazy busy living life with gusto, experiencing a host of “firsts” and enjoying each and every moment. So busy, in fact, that I haven’t had time to blog about it.

Do you ever find that joy comes to you when you least expect it or stop looking for it outside yourself? I think true joy comes via the law of attraction. Read more
