Wishing you love, joy and sparkle…

…and a Happy, Healthy New Year with YOU in the equation!

ITE_Holiday_Quote2_sqI love this time of year for many reasons. My favorite is that I get to tell everyone I care about how much they mean to me. Today, it’s your turn!

It’s been quite a year at In the Equation. Last January, I had the opportunity to share my transformation story on NBC TV’s The Biggest Loser, and our community instantly grew. Many of you reached out for help and each one of your stories has touched me.

Throughout the year, I met many more of you at speeches in Minnesota and in Maine, and conversed online with others from across the country — from Nantucket, to Tennessee, to Texas, to California. We all share the goal of putting ourselves in the equation — ensuring our health, happiness, and well-being. We are learning that by taking care of ourselves, we are also better for others in our lives.

Today, I want you to know that you have touched me. I am grateful for you. YOU matter! This is my personal wish for you this seasonRead more

This blog is for anyone who is sitting in a place of hope, uncertainty, possibility, or even overwhelm. Anyone feeling stuck or immobilized. Anyone brave enough to ask: What if? And: What next?

That’s where I am today.

I write from the National Wellness Institute’s Annual Conference — one of the most stimulating, enlightening, and instructive conferences I’ve attended in a long time. The National Wellness Conference brings wellness leaders, professionals and experts together from all over the country. People who are in a health and wellness, helping people, making the world a better place profession. Read more

A whole life…the best life

“Did you ever in your whole life, think you would have a whole life?”

Lori-ReadytohitroadI was talking with someone close to me yesterday about my recent vacation. As she listened to me reflect on the experience, she said she was reminded of a saying that was displayed on a banner at an Alcoholics Anonymous event. It read: “Did you ever in your whole life, think you would have a whole life?”

I was struck by this observation. Ironically, for the first time in my whole life, I am indeed living a whole life. A whole life vs. a full life. My best life. And for that I am incredibly grateful.

There is a part of me that says, “Wow, this is so cool. I am so lucky. And happy!” And, there’s another part that says, “Holy shit this is a lot of work.” Read more

Twinklle lights and more

Twinkle lights in Rice Park

Hello peeps. Best wishes for a Happy and Healthy New Year! As you can see by the drought in communication, I took a holiday hiatus to enjoy the twinkle lights and so much more.

I LOVE white twinkle lights! And this past holiday offered lots of opportunity to appreciate them. To me, twinkle lights represent hope, love, joy, and all things sparkly, beautiful and good. This holiday my life was filled with white twinkle lights — both in reality and metaphorically.

From Thanksgiving to this day, I have been immersed in twinkle lights. From a special someone filling his house with them, to decorating my house with lights in every room for Christmas, to Christmas light viewing tours in the neighborhood, to  standing in middle of Rice Park in downtown Saint Paul showered in lights. I have found light in friendship, time with family, and in expressing love to all those who mean so much. Read more

One brave thing, part 2

Lori's first ride on a Harley on coast of MaineHello peeps! I write from the unbelievably gorgeous coast of Maine during fall peak. I love it here anytime of year, but New England in the Fall simply cannot be beat. It makes me soooooo happy!

I’m on the northern side of Penobscot Bay — about an hour from Acadia National Park. This adventure brings me back to a place where I’ve found great joy and happiness, fun with close friends, beauty in nature, incredible outdoor adventure and activity, and peace and tranquility, plus the desire to venture out and do new things.

Like my first-ever ride on a motorcycle! To ride a Harley up the coast of Maine in my cute little helmet (not!) with a very cute boy — well, a first I will remember for a long time. Me, a Harley babe, probably not?! But, wow, did we have fun. And I am told, I am a good rider and a cute Harley babe –Ha. 😉 Read more

My foundation of happiness

Lori-HappyFallLast week, I was driving alone in my car (tunes cranked) on my way to a client meeting when I randomly burst into a big smile. I couldn’t ditch the smile for several minutes. The song on the radio made me think about someone special and I was grinning from ear to ear — “perma grin.” I love these spontaneous outbursts of happiness in the middle of a stressful work day!

I know what you’re thinking. Yes, it was a “guy!” But that’s not the point. We dated and he  is no longer in the picture. Nope, the girl didn’t get the boy. But instead of feeling bummed (already felt that emotion), I am truly grateful and happy that our paths crossed. We had fun. He is a great person and treated me well. While he was only in my life for a season — it was a good one and I feel blessed.

I’m recognizing small moments of happiness and gratitude, like this one, a lot lately.

Spring has sprung…time to renew you

Lori's first ever XC ski I absolutely love spring! It’s a time of renewal, freshness, opportunity and transition. A time of readying for what comes next (summer…). And a time where, if you pay close attention, you will see something new – blooming, budding, building, growing – around you at any given moment. Maybe even you! 😉

This week I returned from a business trip to melting snow and temperatures in the 40’s and 50’s. I immediately filled my house with my favorite fresh flowers and budding plants (blue hydrangeas and tiger lillies), got a cute and sassy color and haircut from my awesome stylist Justine, took time out of my crazy work schedule to spontaneously connect with friends, and made the “Lori spring projects” list – all projects that focus on me! Oh yes, and prepped for the tax appointment. Read more

No longer looking for joy. Too busy having fun!

Funny thing about joyI came across this quote and had to post it. I love Leigh Stanley of Curly Girl Designs and find her quotes the best ones to live by. This one struck my fancy as I am crazy busy living life with gusto, experiencing a host of “firsts” and enjoying each and every moment. So busy, in fact, that I haven’t had time to blog about it.

Do you ever find that joy comes to you when you least expect it or stop looking for it outside yourself? I think true joy comes via the law of attraction. Read more
