Operation reboot!

7 Tips for a successful start, restart, or total reboot

lori-operationreboot-2015Nearly four weeks ago I boldly blogged about my epiphany on the mountain and #operationreboot. It’s time for a reality check.

The old me wishes I could report that I’ve been perfect — 100% on plan with no slip ups. The new me laughs at that notion and is happy to report that Ive had a good run, with ups and downs along the way. I’m not perfect. But I’m authentically me. I love and celebrate that.

Yep, I’d rather be perfectly imperfect, perfectly authentic and 100% all in! That’s my new definition of success. And it’s working. I’m kinder and gentler with myself without hiding behind the excuses. I am able to take stock of major progress despite a lot of stress, travel and unexpected emotional challenges. I feel great — strong, capable, and on fire. There’s no question, that I’ll reach my goals. Because I know I can! One day at a time.

So here’s the report from the trenches. Read more

Tell me something good

And let’s start a Tell Me Something Good Revolution!

trusttheprocessLast week, I was feeling down and off my game. My life and daily routine was still in upheaval due to what I fondly call “my pain in the butt sciatica,” now going on 11 weeks. I had turned into a real “crabby pants.” Nothing felt quite right.

While attempting to regain my positivity mojo, I came across a Positively Positive blog by one of my favorite peeps – Jennifer Pastilof — titled: What to do when you don’t feel positive.

How awesome! Read more

Opening yourself up

ITE_WhatsNext-Quote-blogheader

This blog is for anyone who is sitting in a place of hope, uncertainty, possibility, or even overwhelm. Anyone feeling stuck or immobilized. Anyone brave enough to ask: What if? And: What next?

That’s where I am today.

I write from the National Wellness Institute’s Annual Conference — one of the most stimulating, enlightening, and instructive conferences I’ve attended in a long time. The National Wellness Conference brings wellness leaders, professionals and experts together from all over the country. People who are in a health and wellness, helping people, making the world a better place profession. Read more

Motivation Monday: Inspiring success stories!

ITE_YouCan_QuoteWhen it comes to health and well being, people define success differently. To some, it’s about weight loss — the number on the scale. To others, it’s how strong and fit, they feel. For many others, it’s about improving the numbers and lowering risk factors for chronic disease. For some, it’s how much they can bench press? And so on.

For me, success is living from the center of my equation and prioritizing my health and wellness — especially when the going gets tough. It’s been an internal journey as much as an external or physical one. The changes on the inside are as important to me (or more) as the changes on the outside.

People often ask me how I’ve been successful at both losing 200 lbs and keeping it off — for three years, now. I tell them — by working at it, every day! By making myself the priority instead of last on the to do list. I am better for myself and those in my life. Everything is better!

May 2015: Milestones, Meaning, and Memories

ITE_Stronger_QuoteI started the month of May with a heartbreak that tested every skill I’ve developed in the last three years at keeping myself in the equation. And I ended the month by speaking at a premier health and fitness event in the Twin Cities providing hope and inspiration to others.

In between, I celebrated three years of keeping off -200+ lbs and living as a fit, healthy, happy and active girl. To honor that milestone, I worked extra hard to keep myself in the equation and fought through the overwhelming urge to throw in the towel and wallow in my pain. Read more

Tis the season…

2014-12-17 12.03.40Tis the season of giving, joy, celebrating each other and being grateful for what we have.

It’s also the season of busyness, stress and expectations, and if we’re not careful we find ourselves all to easily missing the meaning behind the holidays.

I am blessed and have blogged about it more than once here. So far this season, I am in my equation and staying grounded in the true spirit of the season. But that’s not the reason for this blog post…

Today, I awoke thinking of those  who are struggling. Read more

Cardio in the rain

Good for the soul – therapeutic, cleansing, metaphorical

the pathI made a pact with myself this week that I was going 120+% all in, no matter what. Focus, focus, focus. In part, to help with my head game. In part, to stay on track with me in the equation during some challenging and stressful days.

So up at 5:30 a.m. and outside for cardio in the steady rain before my training session I went. And, just like the lawns and plants in Minnesota — this was a much needed drenching. Read more

Too thin? Unhealthy? Who decides?

rachel-biggest-loser

This is Rachel Frederickson before and after at the Biggest Loser finale.

Since NBC TV’s Biggest Loser finale on Tuesday night, there’s been a firestorm in the media over Rachel Frederickson’s final weight. Rachel, a native Minnesotan, lost 155 pounds and nearly 60% of her body weight to win the reality TV show’s weight loss challenge. She weighed in at 105  pounds to claim the $250,000 prize and the title of Biggest Loser. And, I believe she lost more percentage of body weight than any other Biggest Loser contestant, ever!

The firestorm is the public debate about whether she went to far and is too thin and unhealthy. Twitter and Facebook exploded with viewer comments ranging from she looked  “frighteningly emaciated,” to “she’s anorexic,” to “shame on NBC for allowing this to happen.” And the media lit up over the controversy with everyone from People Magazine, to Time, to entertainment news weighing in.

I watched the Biggest Loser finale with several girlfriends and, admittedly, we all had the same reaction — shock at how thin and frail Rachel looked, combined with surprise that a contestant could get that thin (not muscular or fit) without NBC’s show producers intervening. It turns out, that our reactions were typical. Perhaps the natural initial human response. Even the show’s famous trainer’s Bob and Jillian were captured in a photo looking shocked. Read more
