In-the-Equation Workshops Offered in MN

Join us Nov. 12, Nov. 19 & Dec. 3 — and let’s make YOU the priority!

ITE_Survival_quote_sqAre you too busy to be healthy? … Too busy to workout. Too busy to cook. Too busy to call a friend for a walk?

How about self-care? Are you taking care of your health and well-being… pursuing your goals and dreams or just taking care of others? Dare I ask: Are you even on your to-do list?

I get it! Most of us juggle many roles and responsibilities and pride ourselves on becoming experts at multitasking. But what happens when we slip out of the equation and end up doing everything for everyone else, with precious little time to care for and nurture ourselves?

At 381 lbs., working 12-18 hours seven days a week, I was the Queen of Busy and Unhealthy! (If there’s a crown for that one, I deserved it!) I wasn’t even in the equation of my own life. Then I found a better way. I put myself in the equation of my own life and lost 200+ lbs. — and most importantly found my healthy, happy and WHOLE life. You can, too!

As I’ve been sharing my transformation story and tips on how to prioritize you, practice self-care, and achieve transformative change in your life – so many people have asked for help. I recently conducted workshops in Maine and was asked — why not Minnesota?! So here you go. Read more

Self-Care Sunday. It works!

self-care-sunday-walkI don’t know who comes up with #hashtags for every day of the week (#motivationmonday, #tbt…) but a few weeks ago I discovered the idea of #selfcaresunday.

Though practicing self-care is a fundamental principle for my life now that I live each day with Lori-in-the-equation, I love the idea of a day devoted to rest and downtime. An opportunity to get focused and consciously in touch with what our mind, body and spirit need. It’s an awesome “time out”, if you will.

I’ve pretty much adopted the #selfcaresunday approach (unknowingly) since I began my transformation journey in Nov. 2010 and went from working 12-18 hours per day, 7 days a week, to a non-negotiable of taking at least ONE day for myself — usually Sunday.

Sunday’s have become the day to relax and recharge, to set myself up for success for the week, to enjoy fun time with family and friends, and to get grounded in what comes next. If I do need to work on those days, and often I do, I switch it up and practice #selfcaresaturday! Ha. Take that #hashtaggers. Read more

In the Equation MN Meet Ups

Join us in St. Paul at Como Lake Thursday’s in August!

ComoLake-2015I’m excited to announce FREE weekly meet-up sessions for anyone in the In the Equation community who wants to meet, walk, talk and support each other in reaching their goals.

These MN Meet-ups are for those who need a little extra push to get started, for anyone in search of some walking pals and/or accountability for reaching your  goals. Or, for those wanting to just learn more about me and In the Equation.com.

It does NOT have to be about weight loss or diet and exercise. For many, “putting yourself in the equation” means making time for you and making your needs, your goals, your dreams a priority — whatever they are! Read more

My In the Equation morning ritual

Cardio with a twist!

Como Lake Light on DucksThis summer I’ve adopted a new morning ritual and this morning I realized it and deemed it as such. It’s my “in the equation” start to every day and it totally works for me.

For almost three months, I’ve evolved my morning routine to include this 45 min ritual. It combines my preferred form of cardio — power walking in a beautiful place, preferably around or near water — with a couple of simple mental practices that help me throughout my day.

Also, because I’m on the move and living part-time in Minnesota and part-time in Maine, it allows me to have a daily practice that is consistent and helps me focus mind, body and spirit before the day ensues — no matter where I am. It helps ground me. Read more

Cardio in the rain

Good for the soul – therapeutic, cleansing, metaphorical

the pathI made a pact with myself this week that I was going 120+% all in, no matter what. Focus, focus, focus. In part, to help with my head game. In part, to stay on track with me in the equation during some challenging and stressful days.

So up at 5:30 a.m. and outside for cardio in the steady rain before my training session I went. And, just like the lawns and plants in Minnesota — this was a much needed drenching. Read more

Spring in my step

Pink flamingos in spring windMy neighbor’s new bright red door. Poetry carved in the sidewalk. The sound of kids at the playground. An 8′ x 8′ sunken shack in Como Lake. More than 30 pink flamingos (yard ornaments), clearly the casualty of a brisk spring wind.

These are just a few of the sights and sounds from my afternoon walk around my beloved Como Lake neighborhood. All these sights and sounds have added spring to my step and a boost to my mindset after a cruel winter.

Yes, it’s only 37 degrees at 5 p.m., the wind is brisk, and the forecast calls for rain and sleeting snow tomorrow. But I’ve decided, screw the weather forecast. The first day of spring was officially March 20, 2014 (according to the astronomical definition). It’s here. And it’s time to put some spring in my step. Read more

Putting the weight back on

Those of you who watch NBC’s Biggest Loser know that one of the challenges they put contestants through toward the end of their journey is to don the weight they have lost while participating in a form of strenuous exercise or physical challenge. My friend and mentor, O’Neal Hampton, was one of those contestants on Season 9’s Biggest Loser and we have discussed what this felt like and how truly difficult it was – physically and emotionally. It’s the happy shirt!

This morning I wore my bright neon running shirt for my walk around the lake and I can now confirm that this shirt makes amazing things happen!

It had rained over night so it was one of those totally still mornings with a greyish sky, but the smell of the fresh rain and the nice cool weather brought everything to life making it an absolutely perfect morning for a walk/run. Read more
